Let's raise our voices in opposition to this "pie-in-the-sky" project
The Kingston School Board is proposing a $150 Million High School renovation project. With declining school enrollment and the plummeting number of Kingston High School students returning to live and work in Ulster County, I suggest we raise our voices in opposition to this "pie-in-the-sky" project which will distract of from the primary mission ------ Educating students in the basics and teaching them how to think and to seek the truth about life.

Two Points:
1) How many people think that a $150 Million KHS renovation will improve the atrocious 4yr graduation rate? I vote NO. Only studying books and student hard work will improve the graduation rate.
2) Large companies are not moving to the Kingston Area. A few smaller companies have been enticed here via government subsidies. The quality of the public schools is a secondary consideration. The quality of the local community college is a major consideration.
The role of schools is singular - to educate students in academic subjects. It is the role of parents to do everything else. How much of the renovation will actually improve the learning environment? And NO! Filling their tummies and giving them places to socialize and feel good about themselves will not be a satisfactory substitute.
Vote NO on the school budget!
The existing Kingston school board will settle with the teacher's on the contract before the new Board takes over June 30th - McCoy is looking for a teaching job so the union will support him big time. That's what the board did in Rondout. These cuts are bogus - empty positions used for years to put fluff in the budget.
Isn't the new Board President the same guy who served on the facilities committee and recommnded paying for the swamp site for the new school?

Yes, the new Kingston Schools Superintendant is the same guy who served on the facilities committee and recommnded paying for the swamp site for the new school............. Let's get ready to vote down this new pie in the sky high school renovation plan.
Does this new President have family working in the district like Farrell and Fletcher ?
To 9:39am,
I do not know if the new school board president has family working for the district.
OK - you got them down to $ 85 million. It is a joke that they think they have play money because bids were lower than expected. The architectual/engineering specifications will be found not to include everything - change orders will prevail and the cost will exceed the UC Jail project. Once they get started they will say that they are required to finish it. This is a joke - this is over $ 12,000 per each of the 7,000 students. Why don't we just buy each of them a laptop and home internet service?
