For that 40% difference in fire budgets, the Kingston Fire Dept. uses calls such as lockouts and non-emergency medical calls to inflate their calls. Ask what percentage of their calls are fires. You will be very surprised at the answer.

Take out all of the non-emergency calls and you are pretty close to the Town of Ulster's call numbers. They handle those calls with all volunteers and a cost to the tax payer of 1.7million or so. Not to mention that huge numbers of city residents volunteer in Town of Ulster and other departments because they are made to feel like second class citizens in Kingston. You need some serious attitude changes in management if you ever hope to have volunteers in Kingston again.

Interesting isn't it.

After years of enforcement of building codes - the risk of fire is less. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Time to cash in.
